Community Leader Focus: Jim Held

What’s your definition of a community leader? Someone who gives speeches or donates lots of money to a cause or charity? In reality, community leaders are ordinary folks using their usual daily opportunities to impact those in their circle of influence.

Jim Held, owner of Held Bus Service for Kenyon-Wanamingo School District in Minnesota loves the elementary school kids he escorts to school. The contract with the school district only requires him to pick-up and deliver the children safely to school. Period. But Jim’s vision to impact these kids every day includes hugs and pats on the back. He used his own money to buy bus driver caps for each of his 1st and 2nd grade students. He and his wife made sure students had presents under the tree at Christmas.

Jim doesn’t have the title of “leader,” but he lives this role out every day by the selfless, caring model he portrays. Such a model inspires the students, their parents, school officials, and the community to follow his lead. Read more about Jim Held in this story by Reporter Boyd Huppert at KARE.
